One Shoulder…

Hello there,

I sewed this leopard dress during my Christmas holidays but haven’t got the good weather to take pictures of it so I decided to take the pictures indoor. I don’t think the quality of the pictures are as good which means either I’ll wait for warm weather or get a new lens.

I am not a big fan of one-shoulder garments but I just wanted to have one for this summer.

Let me know what you guys think of it…

Hi there,

Lat week was the world mastercard fashion week here in Toronto. I attended the last two days of it with my beautiful cousin but I wish I had attended to all of it. hopefully next year. I did really love what I saw. I am also posting what I wore to those to days of the show that I attended.

Some of the pictures that I am posting up today are mine and some belongs to the facebook page of this show. Here is the link that you could get the designers of this show. Through this link you can just click on the full portfolio of each designer and see the whole collection that they had on the runway. – http://worldmastercardfashionweek.com/designers/current-designers/ – I absolutely love the Stephan Caras’s collection and Triarchy’s collection.  And here is the link to the facebook page of this runway show – https://www.facebook.com/wmcfashionweek -.

At IFFT Conference…

Hi there,

Spring/summer is on its way to Toronto which means I will update my blog frequently.  Last week I was at International Fashion Festival Toronto (press conference) which will hold the show in May 23-25. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures from my own camera at the conference and I didn’t know any of the photographers, so I have got only these few pictures from them so far.  I will update this post with more pictures as soon as I get them.

I wore my cut out white dress with black knitted scarf and black knee high boots. I always wanted to re-do that post but hey, here is just a new combination with that white dress. Here is the link to that post, ( http://firoart.wordpress.com/2013/01/15/2013/ ).

At this conference I met Marc Robinson, Indian model and actor as well as model coordinator and choreographer. And I also met Omar Qamar CEO and founder of  IFFT.

Transformed Wedding Dress

Hello there,

Believe me, the cold weather outside here in Toronto is the only reason that I haven’t been posting as much. I do have a couple of pieces sewn and ready to be posed but it is very cold outside and I don’t have a good lighting inside.

During my Christmas break I decided to DIY my wedding dress because I am not good at keeping things that I don’t use. well, I did but I don’t think it turned out very good. This would be my last DIY ever because I found that sewing from scratch is easier for me than transforming something. So here I’ll post some pictures of my wedding dress and then pictures of the DIY wedding dress.

I got married to my boyfriend in Melbourne, Australia in 2009 ( at a very young age). These pictures are from our private wedding with only much loved friends we had there (since neither of us had family there and the wedding happened so fast). It was the best time of our lives.

I had a long hair back then and I had no clue one day I would be sewing my own dresses or get into a fashion school.

Hello There,

Its a very cold January day outside here in Toronto( not as cold as few days ago though). But I decided to take these pictures of the dress that I sewed during my Christmas break.  I am sorry that I frowned in the pictures; it was cold and I just got back from school and wanted to post the dress today. I can’t wait to wear this dress in the summer.

I hope you like it.

There Is A First…

Hi there,

should I say again; long time no see. I do really really try to post new things that I have done but the truth is I have only done my homework so far, Nothing beyond and above. I am getting to the end of semester slowly which means I will get some more time to make new stuff and post more. Well, talking about homework, I have got some homework that I wanted to post.

There are things that I always wanted to do and there are things that I would never thought I would do. But, there is always the first time to everything either I like it or not. so, I have designed my first skirt ever in my drafting class and I have made a muslin of it to check my patterns (these were all homework). I have got a picture of my skirt. It is a size 10 but I put on a size 8 dress form. I am sorry for the bad fit. The pins on the skirt indicates that I changed that part of the pattern because I didn’t like the original look.

And these are my first fashion illustrations that I have done. Just to be clear the fist illustrations had to be done in all the animal prints that we learned in class (otherwise I wouldn’t squeeze in so many patterns). The second group of illustrations had to be winter line with all the textures we learned in class. Basically my focus was on the patterns and textures not designing a new idea. I never thought for a second in my life that I would ever do fashion illustration.

All About School…

Hello there,

It has been a while since the last time I posted. In my last post I mentioned that I am starting school. Here I am one month through school. I have been trying very hard to post every week but I have no day off and the amount of work I get from school is a lot (keep in mind that I am moving end of this month as well). When I started this course I wasn’t sure if this was what I wanted to get in or where I am going to get with this but now I am absolutely loving it and I happen to be a big fan of collage. I have Illustration course which we are doing technical flats and soon will be developing our fashion croquis. The other subjects that I have are textile, world of fashion and sewing. In the sewing class we are just practicing pockets, seams, slits , vents and etc. But the one subject that I am absolutely loving is pattern drafting. I can’t tell you how much I love this course. The fact that you can take a garment or a design and make it possible to construct is blowing my mind away. We are drafting size 10 pattern for the class which makes me a bit sad because I can’t wear the skirts we are drafting now (I will post a picture of the skirt that we drafted and sew it but it is not a good picture and I didn’t have access to the iron in drafting class. forgive me). But as soon as I get little more time I am going to make most of those patterns in my own size (it would be a good practice).

Next week we have to design a skirt and draft the pattern and sew it. this whole process is going to take a few month but I will keep you posted. This will be my first garment that I design, draft and sew it.

The other day in our drafting class we drafted a skirt block with flounce at the bottom of it, as soon as we were done I realized that I have sewn the exact same skirt a while ago. So today I am posting this skirt that I made it from commercial pattern and now I know how to draft it myself.

Let me know what you think about it.

Back to School…

Hello There;

You know summer is over the day you go back to school; my school starts tomorrow morning. I have been away from school for almost five years now. I have always taken Drawing and Painting at all schools that I have been in but this time I have taken Fashion Techniques and Design at George Brown Collage. In a way, its a big change for me. I don’t know where I am going with this, I just know that I am going back to school.

So, these past few weeks I have been busy with registering for my course and also trying to find a new apartment to move from my current apartment. I am moving at the end of October to an apartment that I haven’t found yet. People that have moved in their lives know what kind of mess I  am in right now. I have started sewing two different dresses but they are not ready for this week for mentioned reasons so I decided to put on this skirt that I could probably say is one of the first things that I have sewn.

Talk to you soon all about school, projects and moving.
